A 32-year-old Cahokia man was injured in the second of two crashes that occurred along U.S. 50 in Marion County when being pursued by a Clinton County Sheriff’s Deputy late Friday night.

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Department initially tried to stop the car driven by 32-year-old Montez Jackson of Cahokia when he was spotted driving erratically and at a high rate of speed on U.S. 50 just east of Carlyle.

The chase eventually entered Marion County and went through Sandoval and Odin before Jackson reportedly attempted to make a U-turn near West line Road.   A Marion County Sheriff’s Department accident report indicates in the process, Jackson’s car struck the rear driver’s side of one of the two Clinton County Sheriff’s Department cars that were trying to stop him.

Both cars were still drivable and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Deputy who had the undamaged car continued to follow Jackson until he missed the stop sign at the north split of U.S. 50 and 51 and drove through a fence at Evergreen Pools and Spa.

Jackson was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment.   He was later released from the hospital and taken into custody by Clinton County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Jackson was formally charged in Clinton County Court on Monday with felony aggravated eluding at a speed of more than 21 miles over the speed limit.  He is expected to make his first appearance in Clinton County Court on Tuesday.

The chase began just before midnight on Friday evening.
