Randy L Odle, 69, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 5:45 pm October 15, 2020 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Throughout Randy’s career he worked for the City of Mount Vernon, Mount Vernon City Schools District #80, self employed electrician, Park Avenue Baptist Church, Mount Vernon Township High School District #201, and Hughey Funeral Home. He attended Park Avenue Baptist Church and was very active in the Park Avenue Food Pantry which he help start in 1984. Randy was chairman of the food pantry for 24 years and president of Southern Illinois Food Warehouse for ten years. He coached Little League, Khourey League, Colt League, and American Legion baseball for thirteen years. He coached church league basketball for six years. Randy was a secretary/treasure for Jefferson County Church league for five years, President of Jefferson County fast pitch softball league for five years, and past Master for Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge. He was an ordained Deacon at Park Avenue Baptist Church in 2010. Randy started running scoreboard at Mount Vernon football games in 1978, started keeping scoreboard at freshman basketball games in 1978-1979, and started keeping scorebook for varsity basketball games in 1995-1996. He was inducted into Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2013 and inducted into Mount Vernon Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.Randy enjoyed spending time with his wife and grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, working with kids in baseball and basketball programs, and running the scoreboard at Mount Vernon Rams football and basketball games. Randy will be truly missed by everyone that he knew.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 20, 2020 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Park Avenue Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Reverend Mitch Flesch officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Randy’s honor to Mount Vernon High School Athletic Program and Park Avenue Food Pantry. Please remember to observe social distancing at this time. Randy married Sheila (Tate) Odle on December 19, 1970 in Park Avenue Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. In addition to his loving wife of nearly fifty years, Randy is survived by his sons, James Odle and special friend, Julie Tate of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Randy D. Odle and wife, Christina of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Micha Coyle and husband, Justin, Bryson Odle and special friend, Katlyn Fitzwater, Emily Odle, Madyson Odle, Kyleigh Odle, and Carson Odle; great-grandchildren, Bentley Odle, Kaylee Coyle; brother, Lonnie Odle of Mount Vernon, Illinois; sister, Debbie Blakesley and husband, Wayne of Grand Junction, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.

He was born August 9, 1951 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Paul and Mildred “Gene” Imogene Montague. In addition to his parents, Randy was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Odle.
