The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting a record daily high of new COVID-19 cases on Thursday.
There were 4,015 new cases and 53 additional deaths. That’s the highest one day total since more than 53-hundred new cases were reported on September fourth due to a backlog in tests.
Governor JB Pritzker is warning the public the virus is still dangerous.
“If you think it’s okay to let your guard down because some people seem fine after they got COVID-19, I’ll remind you many young people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s are experience long haul symptoms of this virus.”
Long term effects include breathing problems and exhaustion. The statewide test positivity rate has now risen to 4.9-percent, with higher numbers in many communities.
The positivity rate in the Southern Illinois Region fellow for the second day in a row and is now at 7.5-percent. Marion County’s seven-day positivity rate for the week ending October 12th is 6.6-percent. The Metro East Region rose a tenth of a percent to 6.9-percent. The East Central Illinois Region remains at 6.6-percent.
