A 42-year-old Centralia man has been formally charged in Marion County Court for unlawful restraint and felony domestic battery following an incident in February.

Court documents indicate Emmanuel Neal of Cormick Street is accused of unlawful restraint for allegedly not allowing a woman to exit a home. He is charged with domestic battery for allegedly striking the woman numerous times in the head and body. The charge is a felony due to a prior conviction on a Class Four felony.

Because of past felony convictions, Neal is also eligible for an extended-term sentence if found guilty.

Neal had originally been charged with only misdemeanor domestic battery after the incident occurred and has been free on bond.
