The Benton Rangers completed a rare undefeated sweep of their season after winning the Centralia 2a boys golf Sectional yesterday.  They improved to 26-0 including 7 tournament wins.  They were led by Cy Norman who shot a 2-under 68, 9 shots better than 2nd place.  The Rangers also got help from Luke Melvin 81, Peyton Sieveking 82, Andrew Bell 87, Keaton House 89 and Nick Melvin 89.

Benton’s team score of 318 was 20 strokes better than 2nd place Highland, who was led by  Evan Sutton with a 77.  Matching Sutton was Marion’s Hayden Burns.  Mattoon was 3rd on the day followed by Jacksonville 4, Paris 5, Carbondale 6, Mascoutah 7 and Glenwood 8.

Individually, Breese Central’s Nate Rakers was tied for 4th. Christ Our Rock Freshman Parker Boehne finished off a great freshman year shooting a 79 and finishing 17th. Salem’s Luke Light shot 89 to finish 33rd.

In the 1a sectionals held at Ziegler Royalton, Mater Dei’s Carter Goebel was 12th shooting 78, teammate Zander Brueggemann was 12th as well with Blake Kloeckner 21st along with Ayden Frickleton and Ian Berndsen was 24th.  Vandalia won the team event shooting 310 with Mater Dei 2nd at 316 followed by Gibault and Trico.  Althoff was 5th.
