Salem Planning Commission to hear request to turn former church building into apartments

The Salem Planning Commission will hear a request Tuesday night to convert the former Salem Free Methodist Church building at 515 East McMackin into an apartment building. Purcell Properties, LLC is requesting a change in zoning from RS-2 Single-Family Residential to RM-2 Multi-Family Residential in order to complete the conversion.

The planning commission will also consider two special use permits.

Ryan and Alyssa Meador of 150 Woodland Drive in Salem are seeking a special use permit to operate a home daycare at 150 Woodland Drive. The Meador’s are seeking permission to care for eight children, including their own two.

Don Dallas of South Washington Street in Salem is requesting a special use permit to allow placement of a double-wide mobile home on a fixed foundation with a pitched roof directly south of 1444 South College.

The meeting begins at six Tuesday night at Salem City Hall. The meeting will be conducted in person.
