The drive through COVID-19 testing conducted Monday and planned for Tuesday includes taking a swab from your mouth for testing.

It was another busy weekend for the Marion County Health Department with 34 new cases of COVID-19 reported on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Administrator Melissa Mallow says of the new cases, 17 are community spread and 17 are household or close contacts to confirmed cases.   The number in the hospital has jumped to 16, with five on ventilators.  Including those in the hospital, there are 139 active cases and an even 500 who have been released.

Of the 34 new cases, three are school age and contact tracing has been done.  The cases range from one boy under ten, one girl under 13, and two male teens up to a male and female in their 90s.

There will be another day of testing for COVID-19 at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Salem from nine to five on Tuesday.  Over 100 took advantage of the screening on Monday.   There was a steady flow of traffic and a few times where several cars backed up in the line.   If you have insurance you are asked to bring your insurance card, but you can be tested free if you don’t have insurance.  You are required to have a phone number so the results can be given to you.

The co-site manager for the testing, Lawrence Keel, says many of the test results have been returned in 48 to 72 hours but it could take up to seven business days.   He notes about half those coming to the testing believe they may have symptoms while the others just want to play it safe and make sure.

Clinton County reported 37 new positives over the weekend and on Monday.  There are now 178 on home isolation and seven who are hospitalized.  1,108 have been released from isolation.

Jefferson County is reporting 47 new cases over the weekend and Monday, with 21 in a breakout in one long term care facility.   The Health Department reports three of the new cases are hospitalized, including two from the long term care facility.  122 are currently in isolation and 575 have been released.

Washington County has had three new cases since Friday including a 16 to 19-year-old male, female in her 40s, and a female in her 60s.  There are currently 17 active cases and 216 who have been released from isolation.

Clay County reported ten new cases over the weekend, including two residents of a long-term care facility.   One of those is hospitalized while the other nine cases are recovering at their homes or long term care facility.   Six of the new cases are listed as community spread.
