Illinois livestock producers impacted by meatpacking plant disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic are now eligible to apply for grant funding.
Illinois Farm Bureau’s Tasha Bunting says the $5-million program is offered through the Illinois Department of Agriculture.
“The program actually has three different areas that people are eligible for, although they can apply for only one of those programs. There are 3 different pockets, if you will, for what they may be eligible to apply for.”
The three different areas eligible for help include swine producers who faced herd depopulation after April 15; those livestock producers who were holding animals between April 15 and May 15; and the final area includes meat and poultry capacity programs. Information is available through the IDOA website.
