The Centralia Police Department Friday morning swore in Elliot Brinkmeyer as its newest probationary patrolman.
Brinkmeyer graduated from the Macon County Law Enforcement Training Center in 2018. He has prior law enforcement experience with the Farina Police Department.
Brinkmeyer will immediately start the Centralia Police Department’s rigid 12-week field training program.
Brinkmeyer is a graduate of Salem Community High School and Kaskaskia College with an Associate of Arts Degree. He is currently obtaining his bachelor’s degree through St. Louis Christian College. Brinkmeyer resides in Centralia.
Brinkmeyer is replacing Cody Rose who resigned to take a position with Secretary of State Police.
With the swearing-in Friday, the Centralia Police Department now has 24 officers. Chief Greg Dodson says they are currently working to fill a new position left open by a second school resource officer position being created as a result of the passage of the one-cent sales tax for schools.
But with Brinkmeyer joining the force, Dodson says Patrolman Tiana Barbee will move to the second school resource officer position effective Monday. She joins the original school resource officer Gary Denton. Both officers will split their time between the Centralia High School and Centralia City Grade School Districts.
