PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — A Peoria man has been arrested on charges that he was involved with a street race when four women in the other vehicle were killed in a crash over the weekend.

On Thursday,  42-year-old Jerome Polnitz remained in jail after being booked on a host of charges, including street racing, failure to give aid, speeding, and leaving the scene of an accident.

Peoria Police say that the two vehicles were speeding down Washington Street early Sunday when the driver of the other vehicle veered off the road and slammed into a tree.

All four women were pronounced dead at the scene.
