One semi ran into the rear of another rig in the southbound lanes of Interstate 57 south of the Dix exit late Thursday morning closing the Interstate for seven hours.

State Police say preliminary investigative details indicate 30-year-old Alexandre Bourcier of Quebec, Canada ran into the rear of a semi in front of him driven by 58-year-old Mark Penning of Gasconade, Missouri.   Penning had stopped in traffic due to a construction zone ahead.

Bourcier was airlifted from the scene to a regional hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  Jefferson Fire Protection District officials say they had to dismantle the driver’s side of the cab to remove Bourcier from the vehicle.  It took about an hour and 20 minutes to get him out.

Penning and a passenger in his truck, 47-year-old Gregory Adkins of Willard, Missouri, both refused hospital treatment.

Borcier was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Jefferson Fire Protection District officials say the Penning truck was carrying a variety of products for Walmart while the Borcier truck was loaded with tires.

The crash occurred at 11:08 Thursday morning.   Traffic was detoured until around six Thursday night.
