A car owned by Tami Fortag of Centralia was destroyed Saturday night by an engine fire that began while the vehicle was in a washing bay at the Buggy Bath Car Wash at 125 North Lincoln.
Centralia City Firemen say a Centralia Policeman who was the first on the scene used a power wash wand to keep the fire down until firemen arrived and extinguished the fire.
The fire is believed to be the result of a mechanical failure.
The car was valued at $4,500 and was listed on fire reports as a total loss.
The fire call came in at 9:09 Saturday night.
