A home and a nearby mobile home were both destroyed in a Friday afternoon fire in the 16,000 block of Old Fairfield Road east of Mt. Vernon.
Jefferson Fire Protection District officials say both the single-story home and a vacant mobile home just a few feet away were engulfed in flames upon their arrival. The female occupant of the home was away at the time the fire was discovered. Her name was not immediately available. She was not able to save anything from the home.
Firemen say the cause of the fire is undetermined.
Bluford firemen responded for mutual aid and brought additional water to the scene.
Firemen received the call at 12:30 Friday afternoon and were on the scene for about three hours.
