A pickup truck was destroyed and a 40 by 25 foot shed received minor damage in a Saturday morning fire at the Frank Barbre home in the 1500 block of Charleston Road in Salem.
Salem Fire Protection District Chief Dave Duncan says the fire had started in the pickup truck which was under a carport next to the shed. The owner was able to pull the pickup out of the carport but not before some of the flames had spread to the eves of the shed.
Duncan says the truck was fully involved in flames when they arrived, but no longer a threat to the shed. The fire in the eves was put out with minor damage.
The Barbre home was never threatened.
Duncan says before they realized the extent of the fire, Odin was called for automatic mutual aid, and Kell was called to stand by at the Salem station in the event of another fire. However, they were both canceled before leaving their station when the first arriving Salem firemen could assess the situation.
The fire call came in at 9:24 Saturday morning.
