Salem Fire Protection District officials say a 1998 Oldsmobile that caught fire in the Rural King parking lot off West Whitaker Street Thursday afternoon is likely to be a total loss.
Fire officials say the owner Tyson Poston of South Franklin in Salem had just parked the vehicle and had gone into the store when the fire broke out in the engine compartment.
It was near some other vehicles, but Rural King employees were able to knock down the fire quickly with a fire extinguisher confining the damage to the engine compartment.
Salem Firemen say the cause of the fire has not been
determined.
